We got ours from lifestyle pets in lawnton (brisbane) and we got her for $250 or $300 icluding her tank and accessories heating matt and water bowl which we think is a pretty good price i think idealistically you want to look for a breeder but if you are looking at pet shops your best bet is to look into different shops and how they keep their reptiles (some shops dont have a reptile specialist, and you want to stay away from them, because they cant offer you much information, except basic knowledge? also, look at the dates on their feeding! Some pet shops we notices only fed their hatchlings once every 3-4 weeks! Stay away!! LOL |

The childrens I got was $380 which IMO is waaaayyy over what we were looking for and they told me it had been fed twice since they had it and on the feeding sheet it had only been fed once a month and didn't show the second feeding...They told me that it ate 2 days ago at first then when I was purchasing it told me they fed it yesterday...When I got it home I had a better look and it had no bulge whatsoever present, it was thin as, I couldn't even see a poo or pee lined up LOL!...So I attempted feeding it a few days later and it scoffed down two mice when they had only been feeding it one a month...
But it is the most placid snake and doesn't bite, and feeds relatively well, so that was the main thing we were looking for!

which is not such a bad thing, most reptile keepers started with something from a petshop.
the petshops in darwin normally keep stock from local breeders and can supply most retiles on demand.
they can be a bit more expensive than buying via the net. with the advantage of being able to view the animal first hand and no freight costs.
so even when something i see is more expensive i have to weigh up some other factors before i pass judgment.
thats my rant.

I do think shop prices will always be higher as they do need to make money to cover the overheads since they have more then private breeders.

I think all of us have these costs don't we? if pet shops were more competative they would get more buisness i believe i personally don't buy from shops because you always leave feeling slightly ripped off. I used to support my local guy but he would'nt even discount for regular clients you can't tell me things are that tough for shop owners. I can freight the same products from melbourne to QLD and still save lots than i can by walking to the corner pet shop. I also notice the way the till only opens up half the time lol. |

we have not had this choice so we bought from a pet shop which was OK...... they could have done with a little more info on our spotted python but anyway im not bagging on them i think we got a pretty good price $275.00 they also had a childrens python marked at $350 so i figure it differs.......in this store.... so far though we are happy with our new member of the family |

There is not one product in most pet stores that are just way over priced.
