Hey guys ive got a few questions for you all,
i know that you need to put the male into the females house but as i have just finished a new enclosure for my female to nest in, do i need to put the female in for a while by herself to acclimatise as she has been cooling in my smaller quarantine enclosure, since i purchased her a couple of months ago.Or can i put them both in together and just take the male out at set intervals.
Also how long should i put the guys in together for?
They are cape york carpets [supposedly i dont want to start an argument just get some experienced views on how to successfully breed these 2 ] they are both approx 3 and very heatlhy.
This is my first attempt at breeding so anything that you think might help will especially from someone who has successfully bred these guys.
And yes i have read as much as possible on the subject but i still would like to hear your views thanks guys.
Nick

I'd stick the female in the male's enclosure in this case. People usually stick the male in the female's enclosure, but it works the other way too.

I do not know what to advice here. From my own experience, I did introduced once female olive to mail cage and had lot of trouble to pull them a part 1 minute later. Mail had nasty scars on neck as result.
But each specie is different I guess.

i got told that if you put the female in the males cage the female will be to busy investgating the new cag while the male is trying to mate. so in my opionion it is best to put male in with female.

I'd be letting the female settle into her new enclosure before introducing the male. Keep an eye on them for a few days watching for signs of mating. Once the mating interest is gone take him out for a week or so and then put him back in. Keep returning him to her enclosure for as long as mating continues to happen. I must stress that I have little personal experience in this so far and that these views are merely my opinion.

| I've seen snakes fight when the male has been introduced to the female, and while I've seen far fewer female to male introductions, I've never had trouble or seen it in others' collections and copulation has occured in pretty much equal amounts. My guess (and that's all it is) is that aggression isn't significantly more likely with females being introduced to males than males to females, unless the female has been with another male first, which would still be less dangerous than using two males in the female's enclosure. (Was that sufficiently succinct to be understandable??).

My main reason for wanting to put them in the new enclosure is because its set up for breeding with a larger area a few different hides and warm spots and also a nesting draw.Ill try what you said Affro i was thinking about that just wasnt sure how long she will need. I will put the hide box she is using know in with her maybe that might help?

| Can't hurt mate, I reckon put a few things in with her from her current enclosure to give some of her own scent to the new enclosure. May help to speed up her settling in.
Let us know how you go mate |

LOL nigmax. That was exactly the reason why I did what I did with my olives. I build new enclosure and put the male in week earlier. I think that female was upset that I took her out from her smaller nice cage and blamed the male for it, LOL.After this big fight, I spoken to bigguy and he recomended to me to introduce the male to female. When I did this as he said, all was ok.
Since that, I am always introducing males, and no drama.

sdaji you got to think what they do in the wild the females don't go to the males the males go to the female. in everything i have read on the net and in books. says that you should do what they do in the wild and thats the way you will have good breeding but everyones different.
