Is it safe to keep albinos?

I keep reading in different threads about people who have had break-ins and theft of their herps. Given that many of us are trying to win the albino - would it be safe to keep one at home? If so, would you have to keep it hidden and never show anyone except your best friends? Would you have to install a security system? I don't anticipate having this problem, but am curious.

Well it'd always be handy to have some sort of a security system and just dont go handing your address out and showing it off to much lols

Nah, they're pretty hideous looking, those albino variegata. No one would want to steal one!

Yeah, pale and unhealthy looking, but everyone on the site is getting pretty worked up trying to win one! Maybe they need them for BHP or Olive food.

Now that sounds reasonable to me

Okay, I'll provide a serious response now.

I would be selective about who I told or showed the animal to and as Vixen said, a security system would never go astray.

I'd advise doing what many breeders now do, anyway, and that's not to invite people buying to your house, but to instead go to "neutral ground." Safer for all parties that way.

Of course that's useless if you actually provide your residential address on any documentation (Movement Advice etc).

It honestly sounds like more trouble than it's worth. Didn't last year's winner opt to sell rather than keep the snake?

So what do people put on their movement advice if not their home address?

Some people don't write anything at all on the movement advice in the address field. Whether that's strictly legal or not, I don't know, so I'm not recommending anything, only stating an observation.

I personally don't have enough of a collection to be concerned about it, so everyone I deal with gets mine
