Question Is this true!!!

For reasons i wont mentioned who told me this but i heard that diamonds can swallow food items 10 times the size of their head! I couldnt believe it then and i still have trouble believing it now but is this true? If not then to what extent can a diamond or carpet python swallow a rat..

I reckon so....their heads aren't that big as adults...and they could easily swallow an adult possum..

I guess the only way to be sure is to try and feed your Diamond 10x Diamonds at the same time...

It depends on what you mean by "size" I doubt any snake could swallow something 10 time wider than the width of its head. If by size it means something of equal volume of 10 diamond python heads that would be easily swallowed.

10x the "size" doesn't necessarily mean 10x the "width".

If you think of the mouth opening as a circle, with the area of the circle the dimension that expands 10x....

The area of a circle with diameter of 2 inches is a little less than 10x smaller than the area of a circle with a diameter of 6 inches.

So a snake with a 2 inch wide head swallowing a 6 inch wide rat doesn't sound so crazy.

edit: Oh, yeah. What Cris said...

Ravensgait, they can eat items much bigger than that compared to their head!!! Just give a snake a chance and you'll see!

whether they can or not its a VERY bad idea to feed items any where near that size, there are a number of things that can go wrong, so why would anyone even bother to put their animals at risk.?, seems silly to me.

You only have to look at pics of wild snakes eating. They usually have very large prey items being eaten in pics..........Often a python will take a wallaby which is much bigger than the snakes head and there have been reports of scrubbies taking sheep...........

I recon it could be true
Especially when Ozianimals says 'look what they eat in the wild'

I found this pi a little while back, so it could be true

Cheers

Well I guess nothing is impossible but say a big diamond has a head 4 inches across now 10 times that is 40 inches . Now the comment was
Quote"" all pythons can consume prey approx 10 times as wide as head"

Now I agree they can eat enormous meals but 40 inches is quite a bit wider than the width of a really big horse . The only Horse I have near that wide is a Friesian who is about 34 inches wide through the rear and he weighs about 1500 pounds.. Now ya might want to break out a yard stick or meter stick and look at it.. I couldn't even imagine a diamond eating anything 40 inches in circumference much less 40 inches in width. If they could eat prey that size we'd be easy meals to them lol as most men are less than 22 inches wide in the shoulders.. Can see the head lines now 'Diamond eats Owner'! Randy
