i guess im lucky as i bought a jungle that was already weined onto rat's now he is eating two medium to large rat's a week,
however i do know how hard it is to get them eating rat's i have a coastal juvie (not a jungle but six in half a dozen really) that refuse's to eat rat's and im still trying to convert her as she is against rat's for some reason i think she is a racist snake lol
Congrat's mate it is a great day when they take a rat for the first time...

| Gee that's a lot of food scotchbo, especially for a jungle. Did you see the thread about Pugsley's bredli and it's premature death? Any Morelia that's big enough to eat large rats should only be fed every few weeks to maintain good health and help ensure a long life.

| I'm with Jamie on this one , maybe he saying " cya mate " because he knows he is getting to fat , but he can't help himself when you put food in his face . |

My jungle eats anything made out of meat Arnt Jungles more prone to problems related to over feeding like fatty liver etc. than other carpets?

I think all captive snakes are subject to overfeeding - I love watching them eat, so it's really difficult not to feed when they come out to see if you've got anything for them. For any python, less is far better than more. I have some carpets here that are pushing 15-18 years old, and they get fed when I think of it, maybe every 4-6 weeks on average in the warmer part of the year, and they are extremely healthy. I don't really have a routine either, they may get fed a couple of times, a week apart, then not fed again for weeks.
Jamie.

My congratulations to you getting your jungle onto the rat pups. You will see the growth fasten and the snake not as hungry all the time as rat pups fill snakes up more than mice do.

I have to agree with Jamies and Pythoninfinite, we only feed our pythons (3 species) once or twice a month.Like Jamie says sometimes a couple a week ,and then not for another week or so.We also alternate between freshly killed and thawed frozens so they tend not to be as fussy. One of my coastals will eat until I stop putting feed in and shes not fussed rat or mouse,I have to be so carefull and recognise when shes had enough even though I love watching her eat shes a candidate for obesity and early death.
Cheers Odessa
