When I got my jungle yearling she ate 'perfectly' - head first. Lately she's been grabbing the mouse (not live) mid section and eventually turning it to swallow it bum first. Today she grabbed it mid section and swllowed it sideways. Do I have anything to worry about?
I know she can take bigger prey, I'm finishing a bag of fuzzy mice I bought by mistake and then she'll be feeding on adult mice or rat pups. |

by the way rat pups are about the same size as fuzzy mice... so it would be a small fuzzy rat your after then

Yeh Ella, I'm hoping that will be the case, but if she grabs an adult mouse from the side will she turn it to swallow it properly - that's the question. I'll have to wait and see. |

It's fine, some snakes seem to do it more then others.

i think youll find she is only eating it sideways because its small enough for her to, once you get her onto something bigger she should swallow it head first.
also adult mice are much better then then rat pups because the fur and bones etc are extra calcium that the rat pups have not yet developed... or so i've herd

my big coastal tries to eat his rats from the tail end all the time. he eventually works out that he can't and finds where the head is and eats them that way. it can take ages before he works it out though.
