How cold is the prey?

The rats temperature should be indistinguishable from yours. So when it is presented, providing you don't move the prey past its head, it should go for it if your hand is far enough away.

IsK - the rat is warmer than my hands. i have bad circulation so my hands and feet are always on the cooler side. The rat was right in front of his face, i honestly don't know why he decided to go for my hand instead. Another time I fed him the rat was actually dangling down touching his nose inside the enclosure and he was fixated on watching my foot through the glass.

and no it didn't hurt all that much, more of a shock because of the actual force of the hit. He left two teeth in me, poor bugger. He didn't seem worried though.

And yes, I'm glad he got my hand and not my ink

Just wanted to add: The girl I got him from had 5 large snakes and said that he was the only one who she was nervous of around feeding time. He really, REALLY likes his food and has a very strong feeding response.

The rest of the time he's a total sweetheart

That is what amazes me about our BHP"s..takes them forever to find the rat (which is put right next to them)....but can see fine to come flying out through a small gap in the glass doors..... ......
