The rats temperature should be indistinguishable from yours. So when it is presented, providing you don't move the prey past its head, it should go for it if your hand is far enough away.

The rat was right in front of his face, i honestly don't know why he decided to go for my hand instead. Another time I fed him the rat was actually dangling down touching his nose inside the enclosure and he was fixated on watching my foot through the glass.
and no it didn't hurt all that much, more of a shock because of the actual force of the hit. He left two teeth in me, poor bugger. He didn't seem worried though.
And yes, I'm glad he got my hand and not my ink  |

He really, REALLY likes his food and has a very strong feeding response.
