Im unsure if this question has been asked before, but i was wondering what kind of heating if any , you would need in North Qld? I have a mate up here who keeps various species of pythons and uses no heating, just lights? It can get pretty cool here in winter, Do you just let them hibernate? Any help would be much appreciated.

I run heat, but I do know people that don't.
The easiest way to set it up IMO is with a dimmer and a simple heat light at one end of every cage, turn the dimmer right down to nearly nothing in summer, turn it up a bit in winter.
Our temps aren;t really that hot, but they are a lot more stable than down south.

I think it depends on what snakes you are keeping as the snakes down south do not need to be kept the same as a snake from NQ or NT for example. Do some research on the snakes you are keeping and try to imitate those conditions for that snake.......IMO in NQ only lights are required for UV and it is best from what I have read on here to cool your snakes every year as the snake would naturally go through this every year.

depends where the enclosure is really. i found living in charters towers that in summer i had the air con on inside for my comfort and my tanks had a little heat for theirs..

That big thing up in the sky that's really bright provides a fair bit of heat for the wild animals
In the wild they have the option of moving around to find cooler / warmer spots. If your whole tank is sitting at 33C, the snake cannot thermoregulate. I prefer to keep mine in a cooler room and provide some heat. You'd be surprised how cool it can be in amongst the rocks up in the rainforest.

I'm from north Qld and I have a mate here who has kept pythons, taipans and death adders for many years. He only uses lights in his python enclosures and he only turns them on during the colder months. I have an Atherton python and It can get pretty cold in that area. I only use a light when it gets cool. |

My mate and I don't even have UV lights. Just a bulb (mine's 60watt) that will give off heat so the python can choose to heat up under it or move to a cooler area. |
