Here's one from left-field:
I was standing at the sink defrosting Clarice's dinner when it occured to me that my snakes are generally always fed male rats or mice.
I'm guessing this is because rodent breeders will cull most of their males, and rear the females so as to breed from them.
Anyway, I was wondering if eating prey of all the same sex would have any effects on the predator animal?
I know nothing about rodent hormones, or snake hormones, and have no idea if any sort of correlations can be made, but I got curious.
I then started thinking about humans, we probably eat more male beef and chicken with no consequences, but we don't eat whole animals, and our diet is a lot more varied...
...anyone got any info??

Beef at least, I don't think we eat much more males than we do females. Sure, a bull could take care of many cows, but each cow can calf up to 10 times in her life... most of those would be eaten, lets say one female held back to replace? So slightly more, but a good variety I'd say.
As to affecting herps, I've no idea. |

I think the females would average older than males. If you were breeding rodents then you would let the girls have a few litters before introducing then to the CO but they would all make the freezer, sooner of later.

my last batch of 50 rats were all male and ive wondered that myself nicole. monty always has a good smell of them before striking. I wonder if im inadvertantly getting himhooked[prefrence] to male rats. Possibility of male rats being genetically prone to fatty deposits etc?? hadnt thought on the hormone angle though. If anyone can find relative data on feeding all male diet id love to read it.
