really does not have an adverse effect on the snakes whether you keep them in tank/click clack/vivarium/box with lid.
The important thing to remeber is that you need to ensure a good thermal gradient, enough ventilation, enough humidity etc.
How old is the water, how long, tanks are great to keep things in, espevially when you can buy the contact with the multi landscapes on them, choose the terrarium look and change it whenever you want.

Where are you Jordan? And how big is the water? a lot of people up north use tanks as losing heat isn't a big problem but down south it's probably safter with a vivarium. My water is in a 2.5 foot tank but he's only 2 months old. he'll stay in that for a little longer then will go into a bigger one. I will see how fast he grows etc. and then give him a nice big mansion i hope to make out of something like a tv cabinet or something... the time will come soon enough!

I don't think a 3' tank will do a Water for life, for a while it should be fine though...
Waters can get quite large 8' or so, so a MINIMUM 4' enclosure would be required when he gets larger...
The rough rule is 1/2 the snakes length as a minimum...
