This is probably a stupid question but why is it necessary to use reflector globes with lighting?
Can you just use classic tine or soft tone globes?

Depends where you wish to direct your heat. If you want it focussed on a particular area then a reflector globe will help reflect the heat (and light) into that area. If you want to just wam all the air then your average round globe will work fine but remember that hot air rises so it will be hotter at the top of the enclosure than a the bottom.

Reflector globes radiate heat within a relatively small area, so you can give a basking spot, you can use normal bulbs, but they would just heat the air, rather than give a basking spot, unless you used them so that the heat is transfered to the viv above, if you have a stack of viv's.

Thanks guys, makes sense, reason i asked is i was using 60 watters in a couple of my enclosures with plastic lamp holders and i will need to rip em out and use ceramic for a higher wattage, but i found 75 and 100 watt globes that are normal tone and was just checkin if i could use em, ill see how i go, its a pretty big space so ill give it a test first.

ta | If you run higher wattage globed on dimmers you can set them to put out a suitable heat output and because you are running them at less than their rated output they will tend to last much longer.
I think most ceramic fittings, including the very popular one from the Herp Shop, are edison screw fitting. You may wish to check this before lashing out on light bulbs.

60 W is 60 W whether it be a reflector or normal globe so therefore both types will get equally hot at the same voltage. The difference, as has already been said, is that reflectors direct the heat in the direction you point the globe whereas normal, (non-reflector), globes give out heat all around.

Saxon
A globe is a globe. you can buy a globe in a box with reptile writen on it for 'X' amount or go to the supermarket and buy the same thing for 80% cheaper with 'elite' or 'homebrand' writen on it.
Depends what you are after, I use 40watt spot edison screw globes and spray paint them blue. reason for paint is so it isnt bright, all im after is the heating effect.
no reason for edison screw as opposed to the normal push/turn type.
hope this helps
