longevity in Red Bellied Blacks

how long do you think they live for ?in


a. Wild

b.captivity

havent found alot of info on this,but some people might have a better idea or know of some
examples of long lived specimens

I think if you keep them lean they live longer.
I reckon you might get 10 to 15 years if your lucky.

My oldest was born in captivity by Jeff Banks in 1986, making him 22 years old.

Doesn't suprise me in the slightest Bob, is it still going strong? I think most people under-estimate the life span capabilities of reptiles, just look at Ken Griffiths 50 year old Water Dragon!

I know of a guy who has a red bellied black, maybe 17 yrs ?
Its dorsal scales are the size of my thumb nails.....

My RBBS has been in captivity for 12 years to my knowledge, but i probably will never know his exact age.

This one is well over six months old now!



People haven't been keeping them for long enough to know. I expect they'll live to well in excess of 50 years.

well mine must be massive cause mines just a year old and its already a metre long.

Thats great news cause mines a part of the family now and i would be stoked if it last as long as i do.
