Depends on what the snake was being treated for. The most common scenario for sudden paralysis in an animal on any antibiotic is that there has been a haematogenous foci of bacteria lodge in the spine (in simple terms a great gluggy lump of bacteria has wooshed around in the blood stream and happened to land in a capillary supplying the spine). Had a bearded dragon of my own with that this month. Other than that, pip is painless, water soluble and often a very good antibiotic in critical cases. I would think that is it more likely that the antibiotics were given a little too late in the progression of the disease and overwhelming septicaemia was already present. Particularly common in animals that were noticed sick during cooling and have then been warmed up for treatment. The bugs just respond faster to the reheating than the snakes immune system does.

That explains it. Thanks mate. I hope your book has this type of info in it. I find lots of books to be lacking in this type of information.

I had a waterpython get a spot identical also a childreni it mostly appears in liasis and during winter.Once i saw one or two of these light spots i lowered humidity and it was OK but takes a long time to fade. The damage caused by subcutaneous injections may look similar but in this case doesnt appear to be the cause. | | | |
