I agree with you 100% there Afro. I've been keeping snakes for 40+ years and had HEAPS in that time, haven't used a live rodent for 30 years, and haven't needed to, except for the instance you mention, just getting a stubborn hatchie kicked off with a pink or fuzzy, after that... never needed to.
