I was having a look at Snakes NT and read this:
"If you wish to have your reptile microchipped we offer this service free of charge. It is the only way you may get your pet back if it is stolen."
anybody know how this works

I can't be 100% sure but I would assume that it would be the same as for dogs. A tiny little microchip about the size of a grain of rice is injected into the animal in the skin on the back of their neck. Then to identify them its just like at K-Mart. They are scanned across the micrchip and all the info eg. birth date, origion, owner, address details etc. pops up on their computer screen.
