The B1/B1ME would have to be the best value all purpose thermostat on the market.

Everyone has had good and bad of every type of thermostat, has been alot of threads before on this.
I have two microclimate b1 thermostats at the moment and they work a treat, i can't fault them. I won't be using anything but microclimate in the future, but there are other good brands out there. Just make sure you buy the right thermostat for your application ie certain thermostats are better suited to the particular heat source you are using.

I run all my enclosures and incubator with them, would use anything else, they are a solid performer.
The habistat brand the herpshop run looks good also but why change if they work so well

The current issue of Reptiles Australia gives a reasonable run down on Thermostats, types, brands etc.
It stops short of head comparisons (between Habistat and Microclimate - the two main players in the more than basic on/off type thermostats) but is useful in working out what type of thermostat to choose.
I use the Habistats myself and am very happy with them.

I will only use Habistats or Microclimate and both are perfect for any type of cage.

I use Habistat's and Microclimate's on most of my enclosures.... Never had a problem.
I do see advantages in B1/B1ME for dimming and nyt switching purposes.
When researching for thermo's I found one that has progamibility to change tems every hour every day with up to a month memory.. BUT THAT IS WAY TOO TECH for what we need!!!

Microclimate is supposed to be a well reputed and reliable brand, and I have spent several thousand dollars on their units.
UNFORTUNATELY... Of over 30 microclimate ministat100's, B1 and B1-me's that I have had, I have found that about 20-25% of them die early, blow and stop working. I found the warrantee on these very poor and hard to get anything done about the units that have failed. The units that have gone on me have all been within the first 3-6 months of usage. I would no longer recommend them to anyone as I don't believe they are reliable enoght to risk looking after my herps. When they have died, they just pump the heat through with no control therefore risking cooking the animals. I also know of a few other herpers that have had the same problems with them.
Direct purchase from the importer/suppier of them for Australia (URS) would be the only way I would feel any kind of saftey in purchasing them, as I am sure they do warrant them quite well, but some of the smaller supplier's just flat out will not replace faulty units. If anyone wants further info on this, I will only discuss it via PM and not on the open forum.
I am now using Habistsat units for all my new ones and the ones I have bought to replace the failed microclimates. I have had absolutely no problems with them and have no hesitation in recommending them to any herper, be them a beginer or the experienced/professional. They are easier to use, reliable and accurate. Not to mention very competitive with the microclimate pricing.
S.P.
