| | | Miscarriage?? HELP........
Hi all.
Looking for a bit of advice from some of the pros.
I woke up this morning and went to my snake room to look in on my mothers to be. I opened the door and was knocked to the floor by a terrible smell.
On inspection of my cages I found that my gravid diamond had laid an egg while passing a stool. Shock horror - I've nnever experienced anything like this before. What is going on?
The egg in question was small 3.5cm in diameter approx (see attached photos) and obviously infertile. I opened it up and was greeted with a lovely smelling custard surprise.
I continued to clean the cage - the female was little agitated but no more than usual for an expecting snake. I removed the substrate and placed it outside whlie I scrubbed the floor.
Everthing back in order, I proceeded outside to discard the soiled substrate when I found another egg. Must have been laid under the newspaper. This egg was a little closer to normal size 6.5 cm in diameter approx. but was also infertile.
Your input is much appreciated.
The female in question ovulated about 40 days ago and has not yet had her pre-lay shed.
What does this all mean?
HHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers,
Franco

One of the eggs is clearly no good, the other actually looks semi-reasonable, at least from the photo; I'd stick it in the incubator, without much hope, but there's nothing to lose.
Strange what's happened, I haven't heard of anything quite like that before. I suppose all you can really do is wait and see what she does. 40 days is a long time between ovulation and pre-lay slough, is she looking like sloughing soon? Some people would no doubt scream 'go straight to the vet', but in my opinion that's unlikely to be of any use (feel free to do it though, please, no one scream at me for saying this, it's just my opinion etc etc etc).
Hopefully she'll soon slough and pass the rest of the clutch without incident, but prepare for the possibility of a bad clutch, an egg bound snake or some other problem.

Pre-lay shed is on its way. She is starting to cloud up.
Bigguy - can you shed any light on this one?
Cheers,
