Why thank you for passing on that information Very good of you.
Now on a sadder note, due to space constraints etc it has become necessary for me to let little Bubba go I just wanted to let you know before I advertise him in case you wanted him back or knew of someone looking for one who would be able to give him a GREAT home? Not just a good home but a great one because I have become very attached to the little bugga |

| aaawww that is too bad Afro I believe Bubba will sell easily as everyone that looks at our hatchling childreni LOVE the patterns! (we have a waiting list of past buyers waiting for our next batch of hatchlings ) If you want to advertise the sweet lil guy on the HerpTrader there will be no listing fee incurred. Let me know if we can be of further assistance Afro.
Cheers, Judy

I think that as the shell is porous it would offer only some protection from outside problems such as mold.

(I don't think it helps to open the box every day.) It would be interesting to see if the mould returns. I am guessing it would return quite quickly.
The porous nature of the eggs was why I chose and iodine based antiseptic over and alcohol based one (such as Listerine which I had heard of some people using.)
While the egg obviously is limited in its abiity to keep out the nasties it has evolved to do so while at the same time allowing in the necesities such as water and oxygen. I would expect a healthy egg to do this job pretty well?

I am probably not too good at candeling but I had a go.
As you can see in two days the mould has returned and one of the eggs has shrunk quite a bit.
They still smell ok.

Well the mouldy eggs did not make it so I removed them a couple of days ago. I noticed that there is one more underneath which I cannot easily remove. All the others still look fine!

Healthy eggs have a fresh alpine smell which is quite pleasant.
Mouldy eggs smell just like that - mouldy. It is not foul but it does not smell healthy. An almost dusty smell.
If eggs go really bad they can smell quite foul but I have not encountered this often.
