I've stumbiled on " Morelia spilota macrospila (Werner, 1910) in my wanderings but have never heard of it. My bet is that it is an obsolete or incorrect name . It seems to make a few lists ( eg http://deh.gov.au/cgi-bin/abrs/fauna...276;pintMode=1 ) but I can't find any other info.
Anyone?

Its a redundant name at a guess. There doesnt seem to be much info there on it. The Holotype is in the Belgiim Natural History Musem. You need to pop over and check it out. It has no locality so its probably one of the those crosses someones breeding.

The name has been around since before people had bred carpets. Yes, macropsila is a carpet python, the name is not used, at least not by anyone mainstream.
'Obsolete' name is accurate enough.
