just to get rid of some of the negative feeling in the air towards the moderators of this site (who i think do a good job)

i have read a fair bit on diamond pythons and was just wondering if anyone in this site could lend me some info on this species. i was just looking for some info from someone who has had hands on experiance with them.

I wasn't infering all moderators do a bad job, or any for that matter, what did concern me, and others, I am sure, was the apparent self interest of some, when it contained certain agendas that appeal to the self interest of some, and not to the betterment and welfare of the whole, isn't that what community means, and aren't we supposed to be a community?

Morelia,
Im no expert, but I have been told that it is pretty much the same as other carpet pythons. and I know that they are semi-arboreal. There is a really good caresheet under the topic growth g on this site.
cheers

IMO keep them the same as other carpet species but give them 5-8 degree lower temps during the day (raise this to 32 degrees while females are gravid) I also feel night cooling is essential, and giving them sunlight several hours a week is crucial. JMO

A good book is a great place to start, try John Weigel's book, and then fire away any specific question you have...

and I do agree that in general same as Carpets, but not quite so warm, night cooling essential, natural UV may be beneficial, and don't try to grow them up as quick as you might with a carpet..

They need UVB light from either a tube or natural sunlight.

Excellent suggestion, Nicole. Reading up on them is the best starting point, through books and the Internet.

Obviously, sites like this one are a good place to research too! You might like to read the article "Care and Breeding of Australia's Diamond python!" - there's a link to it on the Home page of this site.

Your profile doesn't show where you are, but my experience has been that once we get to know you, you can usually get to visit others in your area so that you can see and discuss the care of snakes with them. Most of us like to share what we know with others, and equally, enjoy learning from each other too!

I'd also suggest visiting Herp societies or clubs in your area - there's no substitute for one on one discussion with someone who knows what they are talking about. Most reasonable experienced herpers are happy to help out beginners who show a real interest. I wouldn't class myself as an expert by any means, but you're welcome to come and see my babies if you are in Sydney!

Good luck!

I'd be glad to help, and I'm sure others will too. However, without knowing what you want to know, we'd have to write a huge thesis to cover everything we do to care for our diamond pythons!

I suggest you ask questions in Herp Help on anything you don't already know, are unsure about or want to confirm.

Good luck.
