I think you would find the opposite is true as insects are a much larger group. Also, funnel-webs prey on other spiders and a wide range of non-insect prey such as frogs and lizards if they get the chance. Their diet is probably as, if not more varied, than most of our venomous snakes. While I do not agree with all that is written in the arguement, the idea that testing snake venom on mice is not neccessarily relevant to the effect of the venom on humans is sensible. Using this (the mouse test) method the mouse spider (even though it doesn't eat mice) is far more venomous than a funnel-web. But I know which one I would rather get bitten by. |  | |
