personly I think the best snake so far I think is very placid and has not one bitten me is the Black Headed Pythons I have 2 and not one of them has bitten since I've had them, my Cape yorks I have been snaged 5 times by my female and 3 times by the male till they got to about 7 foot they don't bite anymore. so if you want to spend a little more I'd suguest a BHP

yes and MD's are just gorgouse to handle both hatchies and adults and don't cost a arm and a leg much better than a coastal for your first.

I have found that my little coastal carpet is a little bit snappy, if you can put up with just little baby bites once they get past that they are very placid snakes. But i also agree that diamonds are really good first snakes aswell

I say any python can be friendly. Most of ours were on the touchy side when we got them and all now are very easy to handle (mind u bar my diamonds lol they will eat you at the drop of a hat). I say if you want a slow moving python that isn't fussed too much on movement and handles quite a bit from you with no bites go a black headed python. I know there more expensive then some of them but boy they are worth it. I would trust my boy black head with even the most nervous handler as he is just not bothered by anything. You can litterally do anything with him (he's even gives kisses lol).

Personally I don't think Diamonds are a good choice for first time snake owners or inexperienced owners. Most people keep diamonds at inappropriate temps and conditions and this leads to a large number of them dying from 'Diamond Syndrome' or having health problems.
In my experience, all snakes are individuals in regards to temperament, and there are always exceptions in all species & subspecies. I have Jungles that are very aggressive and also some that are extremely placid for example. However for a first time snake keeper I would receomend Murray Darlings as being (usually very placid) and also very tolerant of conditions and temps, so would be an ideal choice for a new keeper. Have a look at the Reptile Australia magazine article 'Road testing Aussie pythons' by Doc Rock (Simon Stone) who also recomends MD's as the best choice for new keepers, for the reasons above.
Diamonds can be kept successfully by first time keepers, if they have the correct knowledge, but as said, I think it's an inappropriate choice to suggest them to new keepers in my opinion.

I've kept nearly all the Aussie pythons and in my opinion the Woma is easily the most placid and easy to keep of them. It doesnt get too big and they are a lot easier to handle than Morelia. That's my opinion. I know they are a class 2 animal in NSW, but from all accounts, thats about to change in the near future.

There is considerable talk about putting them on Class 2 in NSW (which I agree with)

all snakes are easy to care for when you've done your home work, lol I still recomend a BHP worth every penny if you don't wont to get bit, they don't bite and they do put up with anything the only time they are agressice is feed time but only when they are in there feed cage. you can put them on laybye at the pet shops and sometimes breeders will do the same, they come in verious colours and morphs these days and the prettier the more exspencive. but some people sell them at $700 - 1200 depends where you go. eather all they don't bite, I cam do my cleaning and she won't care too much. and they love getting out of the enclosure more then coastals my capies would rather stay in there cage and hide most of the time, if you want a snake that is interesting to watch and handle thats not snappy the BHP is the best. In my oppinion, and someone told me that a coastal would be the best to go for a first snake, what a load of crack I bot bit so much more.
cheers Jody
