anyway, when I got them the from a reputable fella down in Brissie he told me he had always housed them together and as it was around mating time he had not cooled them but had seen them coupled. When I got them up here I left them together for a few weeks but there was no mating which is hardly surprising given they had been moved, and then seperated them.
The male would not eat but was a good size and I knew he hadnt been cooled so I didnt worry. When it became obvious the female wasn't gravid I offered her food which she took but only ate occasionally. Over a month went by with him not feeding and her an occasional feeder.
As my BHPs were needing bigger spaces I put the maccys in together and within weeks they were both regular eaters. As i wanted to breed them I seperated them again a few months later so that I could later "introduce" them for mating. Well he immediately went off his food and spent a lot of time roaming the enclosure. Feeling like an idiot I reintroduced them and sure enogh he was straight back on his food. Thinking it may be the enclosure I put a divider in it to seperate them and he spent days searching for a way through the tiny gaps at the edges of the new wall..
Finally I gave up and took it out and they spend most of their time in a non mating ball in one spot or other. At feeding time I just put them in different parts of the enclosure and they never miss a feed.
If somebody had told me the story I'd give them an understanding look and have a quiet laugh but as strange as it sounds thats what is happening and I do feel a bit stupid talking about it but there you go...guess I had one too many red wines tonight....lol
I dont care that they havent bred, if they do one day thats great but if not I just like having them around now.
Again noy my story just thought it was interesting behaviour...
