Atherton carpets are generally bigger than the smaller true jungle carpets. There are a lot of different jungle carpets which generally differ in colouration in respect to locality origins.
Your classic Athertons are generally not as brightly coloured as true black and golds from areas such as Palmerston,Mission Beach,Tully etc but there are still some very pretty ones found on the Atherton Tablelands that's for sure......

Either a Murray-darling or an Atherton would make a great first snake. You could get two Murrays for the price of a jungle.
Just find one that you like the look of and you'll be one your way.

Hello Browns did you read the entire post i asked what was the murray like as opposed to the atherton carpet
The title Murray darlings /atherton carpets
i am a beginner and wanted opinions on the different types of carpets and also if there was a difference between a jungle carpet and an atherton carpet what is the average hatchling price for either of these murray darling or atherton or jungle carpets?just so i dont get ripped off!
Thanks for your comments browns i hope i havent offended you . |

I've never kept an Athertons, but I've had an Inland carpet for a few years now, and I can highly recommend them. Great temprements, I've never even been hissed at. Easy to take care of, and super-great colours and markings.

No offence taken at all man.I was the one who read the post wrongly.
General hatchling price for murrays and Athertons is around $250.I would personally recommend a murray darling over an Atherton as a first snake if they are the 2 sub species you are wanting to choose from.On the whole murrays tend to have excellent tempraments to suit a beginner and are a nice looking animal too.Athertons are a type of jungle and many tend to be quite snappy but there will always be differing opinions on that.....
Have you checked out all the other carpets available?

Well i have had a bit of a look around and i have to say that the murray is the most appealing to me colour wise! I do like diamonds but have been told they are harder to look after then the murray and a lot more expensive also i have been told the murray is very placid .
I think in time i will have a much larger collection i now know what everyone means when they say "you cant stop at one " there are so many variations that its hard to know what to do ! But with the help of all the more expierienced herpers out there i am slowly getting to know what's what
Thanks

Hey Mick, I have noticed you asking for advice on a few sites.
I reckon it is great you are getting as much info as you can to make a well informed choice. When you do decide on a snake, you will already have an idea about what you are buying, instead of jumping in feet first which seems to be a common occurrence in this hobby.

dobermanmick: I don't know where you got your info from, but diamonds are actually super easy to care for, and aren't expensive at all. Infact they're around the same price as an Inland hatchling.
I'm assuming you're a newbie? Welcome to the hobby, and goodluck getting a diamond one day.

From me......
I merely pointed out that Diamonds need separate day/night temps and mentioned DPS.
I havent seen any Diamond hatchlings around for $150 either. Can you please let me know where I can get some for this price.
