my female carpet

don't really know the parentage of this female, but she looks more like a coastal than a PNG-IJ carpet. what do you think? she was hatched in 1996. anyone got any similar looking animals?

Congo, I think he was referring to an "Irian Jaya" carpet. I for one am not quite sure as to what it may be exactly. It does look similar to an IJ, but could also be a coastal, or atherton, or a mixture (if you wanted a vague answer you got it lol )

Nickvelez, I cant help on your python's parentage. However I must say that she's not like any carpet's i've seen in Australia. She's has nice patterns though.

sorry I only just filled in my location.
I'm finding your comments very interesting. I always thought that this animal looked to be more 'coastally'. sounds like she may well be of mixed origins or maybe is of Irian Jayan or PNG stock. I'm really pleased with her colour and pattern, the male is much darker.
here's another of the female

perhaps I should have posted in exotics.

Man if that is not a jungle then I don't know what it is. I would dispute anyone saying it is a coastal ? I know thgreat colour varients in them. Coastals are my number one Herp. I love everything about them, I just can't see that being one especially with those markings?

Hello all,

Well I picked her as a jungle atherton just because of the head markings, but now that I realised your in europe, that carpet could be anything, a few jaya carpets that I've seen
resembles very much to your carpet and some of them to our jungles and darwins, and guys we do have them here as well on some atherton morphs and coastal ones as well
I attached pics of my 6 year old proven coastal female that is a bit similar to yours and a 3 year old female prosipine( which is also known as coastal )

Regards,
Joel

I'm on the Jungle bandwagon also, Irian Jaya pythons closely resemble the Variegata in appearance.

Moose, your right, they even share the scientific name to, both are considered to be M.s.variegata, although some do call the IJ's or West papuans .M.s.harrisoni.

I think that the snake looks like it has more Atherton or coastal influence than IJ, I have seen alot of IJ's and can't see much resembelance there myself personally, but your right there may have been a cross at some point in time, however going back to the time when your animal was bred, most people would of only just started working with IJ's, so I find it hard to believe they would of wanted to cross them with another subspecies before breeding pure, but you never know.

Cheers Neil
