To be honest the only elapid i have free handled is a red belly, i'm not game or confident to try anything else.
I wrote to Sdaji asking for advice before i ordered the animal. I was concerned about being complacent and he said treat everytime you go near it as though it wants and is trying to kill you everytime. With that said, i guess i won't be handling it. I have bought a tub so that when i need to clean i can hook him out and place him in the spare tub and then return him when i am done. The only sort of handling will be this.
When i fed him tonight i could not believe the force or how quick he hit the pinkie rat. One minute it was there the next mili second the rats head was in its mouth. Amazing but so quick.
Thanks Donk, i have been desperate to get an adder and i quite liked the look of the Floodplains Death Adders so took the punt. Aren't i brave to do this now that i am no longer living at home

Well done Simone, adders are such a fantastic snake to keep. I've keep dozens of elapids but the only species I own now are adders.
With a bit of common sense and caution you won't have a problem with them. With mine I always remove them from their enclosure before cleaning or changing their water bowl and just make sure your feeding tongs are longer than the snake and your safe as a bank.
I bet you won't just stop at one one, last count I had over 20 adders and still sourcing more

Simone. | Thanks for such a great answer! Sounds like you are just keeping it like a beautiful tropical fish - to watch and display, but not for cuddles. Makes sense to me!!! Must be interesting to see the difference compared to pythons when striking etc...

He arched his back up and hissed etc....... i bumped his tub by accident. I am trying not ti disturb him but at the same time i want to sit the tub in front of me and just stare at him.
Poor serpenttongue i think is a bit worried about me keeping the adder though.
Thanks Jozz and jessb and everyone else. I will keep you all updated on his progress.
Simone.

I just hope my old man doesn't freak, if anything its my mother that will have a heart attack about me having an adder.
He really is a pretty little animal. I have no idea what to expect as far as growth goes or anything but will be exciting to watch.
Simone.
P.S. Thanks again to David Reed.

I will probably change it to red desert sand but Morris doesn't seem to be too fazed by it.
