Coastal Carpet, they are pretty hardy. Murray Darlings have a good reputation for temprament.

Umm.. basically the smallest but i'm not sure yet! I'm in the process of persuading my husband, at first he said anything under 4ft in length so i showed him the Stimson but now he reckons Bredli's look better.

I'm thinking Stimson.

Unfortunately there wasn't an option on the poll to choose all three!!! I think they are all great as first snakes - we have a Stimson's and she is superb with our 3yo daughter. They also don't get too big (max 1m, unlike Bredli who start out pretty tiny and cute, but grow really fast and end up at around 2.5 - 3m!) Bredli are also apparently very good first snakes - so if the bigger size doesn't worry your husband, then I would go for it! Also keep in mind that they take a couple of years to get to full size, so if you get a hatchie, then you will get used to the size slowly as they grow.

Check out the great deal at the moment at Snake Ranch! (www.snakeranch.com.au) It will mean mucking about with interstate transfers etc, but $180 for a Children's, $260 for a locale specific Stimmie and $320 for a Bredli - you can't go wrong! Kane is great if you are a first-time owner with loads of advice and support. He is happy to answer the stupidest questions and not make you feel like an idiot!

Good luck, and don't make the mistake we made of getting a huge enclosure - you can really spread your costs out by getting a click clack and heat mat for about $50 which will last them a year, then transferring them to a bigger home.

Aoife - ...all three are well suited as a first snake...

...the decision will now come down to your decision. You will need to consider what size is suitable for you (as Bredli get considerably larger than Stimmies or Childreni) - and that it will come down to what you prefer the look of...

Depends a lot on size and what you like best, i got a coastal but i love the sizes they get to, a bredli will get fairly big but they're great as long as your ready for a fair size snake.

go for a coastal. they are hardy, good temperament and great looking. again the size of a fully grown coastal is large you will have to consider that. they are also cheap.
my hatchy coastal is awsome and never biten me or even hinted too.
