my grey coastals

i've read lots of for and against posted in zobo's thread, and so everybody knows mine are not related in anyway to the one zobo has, unlike zobo, i didn't buy mine, i bred them, so i can provide parents and sibling pics,

i've always called mine greys because thats the colour of them, no different then calling an albino an albino,

i'm still not 100% certain they are axantic, and i agree that they have to be line bred to get a more clear result, hey they might just be your average looking coastal, but just maybe they aren't, i'm not saying anybody here are wrong or right, but what i will do is post my results from 2 years breeding the parents,
over the next 2 or 3 years we will have a better idea, i have 7 from the first year and 12 from this season, all from the one male but from 3 different females, only 4 are showing the grey colour and one of those showing red spots, which i've been told might be a paradox, the rest are just normal looking coastals,

the male is one the mark sim bred from his hypo line,

i bred him to a local bought prossy coastal in 2006/2007, nothing special about her, they produced 14 eggs and 15 hatchys, 1 set of twins, from these i got 3 greys and 3 normals and 9 reds, i sold most and only kept the 3 greys and a pair of normals and a pair of reds,

i then bred him again this season gone, 2007/2008 to 3 females, the results were very interesting,

to the same female i got 5 greys and 10 reds, (i've sold 4 of the greys from this clutch)
to her sister i got 15 reds, no greys,
to a 3rd unrelated female i got 24 reds, again no greys,

i'm not sure what to make this,

from the first pairing over the 2 years i got 30 hatchys and 8 were grey, thats about 1/4 of the hatchys, which would work in if both parents were het for axantic? and would also explain why the other 2 females never bred a grey hatchy,

this is all just maybe's, but if the parents are hets then 66% of the siblings would also be hets, and 50% of the hatchys from the male to another female would also be hets, ( working on albino rules ) and thats also allowing that the axantic gen is reccessive, ( i think my % are right ),

so by breeding 2 grey hatchys together i should breed 100% greys,
by breeding a grey hatchy back to one parent then 50% should be grey, the other 50% would be 100% hets,
by breeding 2 normal siblings together i should get 25% greys IF both are hets,

i don't want to get involved in any back and forth about what they are and what they aren't, i'm just giving a little bit of info on my breeding results so far, i will be doing more breeding over the next couple years to see if i'm right, if i'm wrong, well i lose nothing because i thing the grey looking coastals are stunning in their own right,

parents......

male.........

female.........

Nice stuff Steve.
very interesting breeding results with the number of greys produced per clutch.
Love the grey stripe.
Don't worry the other thread got closed for some reason??
You can putme on the list for your greys

hahaha grumpy, she is nice hey,

thanks zobo, i had planed to post this in your thread, but i got beat to the draw,

i wonder where all the posters from your thread went, things are different when somebody can provide parent pics and a couple years worth of breeding results,

yes these might be just plain ugly coastals, but i also would love to see other hatchy pics like mine showing the grey hatchys at birth with siblings, and i have plenty more pics of mine,

did i read in your thread about axanthics going a brown colour just before shedding? if so the funny thing is the closer to shedding mine get the more brown they turn, then after a shed they look grey and some have a very blue colour also, mainly around the head,

the 2 that grumpy posted in your thread are both mine, and you can see the difference as both are from the same male but different females,

i'm looking forward to breeding my average grey coastals to my fake hypo siblings, maybe i'll get average fake ghosts, but who knows, only time will tell,
