hey guys...just got my 6 month jungle out for a bit of handling and she wrapped herself round my hand and wont let go!! i wonder if she thinks she can kill me if she squeezes for long enough! lol she's been handling really well recently...hasn't bitten me in ages so maybe she's making up for lost time or something...anyone got any ideas why she suddenly wants to kill my hand?? i washed em before i held her so its not that i smell of food.

Sometimes movement is all they need to go into a feeding response. If you hold you hand underwater she will let go.

yea my carpet python once did that to me and my hand started turning purple. I eventually got him off with my mums help but then staright away after wrapping my hand he went straight onto her. We decided to put hin in water to get him off but we didnt fully submerge him, water was only like 5cm deep in the bath. Eventually i pulled the last coil of my mum and he latched onto me without coiling. I just put his head under running water and he stopped biting. Then i got him into a pillow case and put him in his cage in fear i would have to do that all over again. Took so long to get him off

My adult male jungle did that to me fairly recently. Spraying him with a water bottle had no effect what-so-ever, but maybe running water will, as previously suggested.
I ended up enlisting the help of my gf to pry him off me, which took a surprising amount of effort lol. The little bugger really didn't want to let go.

They can be extremely strong. One of my spotteds has made my hand turn blue on several occassions. I usually just blow on their face and they let go. Dont submerge them in water as they can get water in their lungs.

It can be very difficult if they are in one of those moods. I find holding them under a running cold water tap usually helps, unless they are particularly determined! Best of luck for next time!! |

its ok i got her off eventually...i just thought it was interesting! i let her stay there for a bit to see what she would do...if she eventually got bored or something...but after about 10 minutes she started breathing differently like she breathed in then instead of letting it out slowly she let it out in a quick puff and it made a little sort of squeeking noise. i hope its not a respitory infection or anything...she stopped doing it once i got her back in her tank so maybe it was just the effort of sqweezing for so long?? she had a drink of water straight after i put her back in...first time i've seen her drink. maybe she was just puffed out. i just put my hand in her tank to get her off...when she realised she was home she let go straight away. it probably was the mevement thing triggering a killing response cos when i tried moving my hand she squeezed tighter.

Looks like I'm not the only one this happens to LOL. I have a Jungle who does this sometimes just after getting him out. I try not to stress him out but I just watch him coiling around my hand then it starts to get tighter and tighter. He's only as thick as my thumb or so but can really make it throb. I first thought my hands sweat was causing him to get stuck and not able to slide but after it happened again I knew what he was up to LOL. He's always going to be a little stinker but I wouldn't want him any other way. Good Times!

I have been caught up like this once too..... And I used the Blowing technique too....
Just with Blowing.. Be careful that he/she then doesn't then go for you face.... You'll end up copping a nice bite on the face like CHANNI recently did.....
