My heart attack

I woke this morning to a horible feeling. I placed my newly aquired coastal hatchiling in with my 16 month old Bredli. My parents flipped thinking that the bredli might eat the coastal so I started to get paranoid. I couldn't find the coastal this morning, and when I did find it this is what I found. I am pleased that they now get on!!!
I hope you like the photo.

Hmmmm - still not convinced it's a good idea - snakes aren't particularly maternal.

Will you be seperating them soon anyway?

I hope you never wake up with that feeling becoming harsh reality.... As slim6y said, not like a bredls and coastal are going to be best of mates in the wild...

Yes I have got a new tank for the coastal, I just haven't got the heart lamp, thats this weeks priority. So yes they will be seperated as soon as the heat lamp is in there.
OI guesse we all learn something new everyday. I thought that they would be okay, but I guesse not, so the sooner that the heat lamp gets in the tank the better.

not a good idea, at that size the coastal will be an easy meal for the bredli.

I'd rather give the hatchy a cold week than take that risk

Just the one night. I was under the impression that they wernt carnivores and don't eat each other. With the information that I have found they would fight if they were both males due to territorial reasons.

It does look really cute and in a perfect snake world it would be fine BUT not worth the risk. I would definately separate them. The bredli may be lulling the coastal into a false sense of security!
I don't think anyone should have a go at you for wishing it would work but listen to their advice now.

carnivores are meat eaters which snakes are and often will cannibalize if given the chance. I have heard of snakes eating their mates which were close to their size. At that age there will be no mating disputes

Might have been an Idea to get the set up before the snake?,... just an idea,.

I think you are asking for it keeping them together,. there is way too much of a size difference.
They may live together happily, . but I dont think it is worth risking.

If you have no choice, maybe put the Coastal in a click clack inside the enclosure.

If you don't have a heat lamp yet, and you don't want your coastal to be cold, put him in a click clack inside the bredli's enclosure, but don't put a water bowl in, in case the bredli tips the click clack up and it falls on the coastal. You will have to take the click clack out daily and give the lil fella some water tho.

I know this is not a long term solution, and it might razz both snakes up, but at least you'll still have 2 snakes!
Better yet, go get the heat lamp (and cover) and put your coastal in his own enclosure... altho, as a hatchy, it's probably best if he's in a click clack. It will probably make him feel more secure and less vulnerable.
