What size is the RBBS? I have an RBBS that was only feeding on live mice and even then he wanted his privacy. Wouldn't do a thing in front of me. Still now he wont eat in front of me, wants time to himself.

How old is he ?
Red Bellies can be quite difficult to get started especially if they are babies. You can try force feeding & small feeder fish are sometimes an option & probably the easiest to get down their throats to get some condition on them & the rest is perseverence until you get it started after that it is normally easy as once they get a taste for their food blacks are generally pigs.
Good luck

Have you talked to the person you bought him from about his feeding history and habits? Failing that give fish a go if it wont take mice or rats if it's been some time since he's eaten.

I'd be glad he's not interested in eating frogs as they almost invariably pass on worms to snakes.

Yeah true, I've only had him for two week - maybe he still is adjusting. It's a bit of a worry also because he's 60cms long but two years old!

lovemysnakes, Try to avoid giving skinks, frogs etc, dont confuse it to much, there not hard to assist feed, get a dead mouse and place it near its mouth and that should do the rest for you. some times you may have to push it down a little, but with all elapids i have assist fed did the rest for them self. i bet if you assist feed it ,after a while it will want to eat all the time. mine wants food every day. There are many methods you may use ( small elapids wet cloth over top and then pin as the wet cloth slows it down) for (large elapids pin with a elastic rubber end of what ever rod you choose) that way you wont harm the snake as the elastic rubber wont crush it. the wet cloth one you have to know where the head is so you know exactly where to pin it with your fingers. its easy. dont try and pin a small snake with a hook as they try and put up more of a fight, the cool cloth is one of the best for me, but every one has there own way so dosent mean this method is for you but its worked for me and i have never been bitten, actally ive only been bitten by a reptile three times and i let them bite me so i would no what it felt like.
later steve

Hey Steve,

Thanks very much for that - will let you know how I go!

Jos has also mensioned she might be coming down in a few weeks (she lives about 2.5 hours from me) to sort me out (and my snake) - (the RBB that is) - she is the mad snake woman from the outback - I'm worried.

Glenn
