Natural incubation pic

Here is a pic of a Pilbara stimsons incubating her eggs. Every now and again I let my pythons perform what comes naturally as I really do enjoy witnessing this. To me at least, this is the pinnacle of keeping pythons.

She's a lovely girl. Do you find much difference in hatching rates when you incubate vs when the mother does so?

I have had equally the same results with both methods e.g. successes and failures.
The thing to remember though, the failures were incompetence on my part through laziness and whenever I set up either method correctly, were rewarded with 100% hatch rates.
Having said this, I find it very easy to correctly set up and maintain eggs with natural incubations. To be fair, even the natural incubations are artificially controlled to a point anyway, through the maintaining of constant humidity levels and temperatures.

Nice pic Dave. And a very nice looking animal she is too.

Do you breed consecutive years with natural incubation or does it leave inadequate time to re-nourish the mum?

With one stimsons I have had 3 natural incubations in a row, as it is not hard to quickly condition an animal.
Secondly with keeping a close to ideal incubation temperature anyway, insures that there is fewer tasks for the mother to preform e.g. shiver, urinate on eggs etc. This ultimately equates to less condition loss.

Thanks Sdaji, I enjoy them up until I walk into the snake room and see 100 cages that need cleaning.

Overseas more and more of the big breeders are using natural incubation, it seems like the obvious thing when you think about it,

I guess as the saying goes, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, I don't rate this particular python as anything I consider good looking but maybe I am just a little bit spoilt.

Thanks Dave, always nice to hear of how others are doing things. Just love those stimmies!

That’s the thing bimbo, a stimsons we found about a week ago that I definitely thought was hot, my girl friend and one of my boys thought it was nothing flash and I was raving on about nothing.
As far as colouration goes, there are quite a few different yet consistent looking stimsons in these parts and I would love to one day line breed them all. That’s if I live long enough.

As I can not seem attach pics anymore to threads, here is a link to the pic of the hatchlings. Most haven't had their first shed yet. Most of these hatchlings will be available soon.
