a friend of mine bought [3] gtp,s to take home to brisbane on the weekend from NSW by accident they were placed in with the aussie post mail apparently a couple of hundred kilos and this hold section unheated in the plane, known to have frozen animals in the past as it gets way below zero, well apart from them being lost for a while AAE owned up to where they had been [HOW WOULD YOU FEEL] well as luck would have it they were double boxed with the outside container being a rather thick close fitting polystyrene container that saved the day ...the GTP'S were rather cool but OKAY.....PHEW ....WHAT A HEART STARTER....HOW WOULD YOU FEEL......betty boop

the only thing worse than a dead snake after transport is the owner of that dead snake

Sounds like your friend bought the 3 advertised on RDU.. I wonder how they mixed up livestock with normal mail. At least the outcome was good. I bet you there's little if any compensation for animals that are lost or killed during transit. Quote:

That would have set him back a packet Always good to have friends with Chondros - come to think of it it would be nice to have friends
I've read the fine print on the AAE docket and they say they are not responsible for any loss or damage/death which occurs while the animals are in their ??CARE??.
They've got us by the (well you know what) and charge the Earth for zero responsibility. Quote:

S_V, you are covered for loss only to the value of $500 for "perishables" which is what they freight reptiles under.
I've had them put geckos in the wrong hold twice now, they weren;t so lucky.
If I was going to get GTP's I'd drive down to pick them up for sure.

For that type of money why wouldn't you just drive to pick them up. AAE hasn't had the best track record especially for herps that expensive..........

How have they pulled through since being back on the heat and settled in?
I hate hearing near miss stories like this. AAE need more accountability in these situations but I guess it's a risk we have to take when frieghting our animals........

i drove 2 hours to sydney airport to get a pair of stimmies, and AAE lost them and couldnt find them, we waited there until 1.00 in the morning and they told us to go home and if they find them we'll have to come back, and they werent going to do anything about it at all, we ended up waiting and they found them out the back on the floor somewhere where they werent even supposed to be. it was crazy and they werent even nice or very helpful in the situation.

If I got 3 GTPs there is NO WAY I would have them posted! Dad even considered driving from here, Brisbane, to Adelaide to pick up my Darwin and she was only $600. We decided that Adelaide was to far though so she was flown up. If she was in Sydney we might of just drove to pick her up. Fortunately she was OK when I got her. I sure hope those GTPs don't have any side affects.

That's disgusting.
I've heard so many different stories with AAE and Australia Post in losing animals/items, damaged goods and even staff stealing valuable items while in transit.
They should be held accountable for their irresponsible actions!
Glad to hear that they are okay though.

The low temps are only part of the story. If they are in an unpressurised cargo hold, they will be subjected to un surviveable low partial pressure of O2 at altitudes of around 30000ft plus. (maybe reptiles are able to cope with this better than humans)
It worries me enough just getting mine sent from Sydney to our local airport when the aircraft only gets to about 20000ft (I think).
