New Bredli

Hi guys,

I got my first Bredli from Roy Pails on Thursday. Nice Guy, I said I was after a young female Bredli so he brought out 14 of them and let me handle and inspect each one before I made my final decision. None of them had been handled much and all are 11 months old and just switched to feeding on Velvet Rats. I got bitten by one and don't know what I was so worried about. It felt like someone touching you lightly with their finger as if a tap on the shoulder. It drew blood due to my own stupid fault of pulling away (a natural reaction), but didn't hurt at all.
I eventually picked a beautiful female which was the most placid of them all. She has settled in her enclosure well and is due to shed anytime now. Just a quick note though, she has gone into her hide at the cold end of the enclosure which is 26C. Will she be ok in there? At this age should I have the cold end warmer or will this be fine. She is my first snake so I am a little unsure of the minor details.
I'm being good in not handling her for at least a week, but gee the temptation is certainly there.
I will post pics after her next shed.

Hey James.

In a recent post (thread titled Morelia Bredli) Chris Cool mentioned that enclosures should be

"Hot End: 32ºc
Cool end: 24º-28º"

Hope that helps.

Hey James, my wife got a Bredli from Roy also! Picked him up yesterday. I think he must a brother to yours as he is the same age and as placid as anything. I have posted a pic on another thread but this is what he looks like. Much like yours?

Hi Hsut77,
Yes our baby looks exactly the same. We named her Akinii. Roy said he didn't breed them himself, do you know who did? It would be good to know so I don't inbreed later on down the track. I emailed him last night, so if you don't know and want to I will PM you when I find out.
Has yours settled in ok?

Beautiful colours in both snakes. I love the pattern on the female.
How are their temperaments? Will you be breeding them anytime soon?

26C is fine. My Bredli are different. One stays in the cold end most of the time. One stays in the hot end most of the time. The others wander around a bit! She will move to the hot end when she needs to. A bought a nice hypo Bredli off Roy last year. Died after a few weeks!

they both have great temperaments, neither bite and both feed very well.
my female is only 2yrs old and a bit over 5 ft, so may still be too young to breed this coming season but i will give it a shot and see.

Sorry to hear that Fester. That would have been devistating. do you know what it died from?
I came home tonight after work and found Akinii (our little baby) in her hide with her head all limp. I instantly thought the worst. Luckily she lifted when she saw me poke a light in there. What a relief!

You wouldnt beleive that I also picked up a female from Roy on Thursday morning looks very similar to Hsut's so more than likely of the same clutch, My girl is very placid also, she was the lightest out of 4 that he brought out and as I said very easy to handle, what a bloody coincedence. I'll post some pics tomorrow. My wife also made a purchase, her first snake, a month old maccie, makes my bredli look massive!!

I handled my bredli for the first time last night since I bought her and to my suprise she didn't strike once. I thought she would but she has really settled in nicely. I had to clean her poo, which came out Friday night and she was fed on Wednesday. With her digestion working well, I am less concerned about the temps. I have her in an exo-terra tank for now, with a large corner rock ledge and a cave at the bottom. I have stopped heat comming out the top with silver foil. I am running a ceramic heat emitter (60W) with an 8" reflector on a Habistat Pulse Proportion Thermostat that is perfect for maintaining a consistant 32 degrees at the hot end. Under the tank I have a 7W heat matt keeping a third of the floor at 27 degrees and the remainder of the floor is 26 degrees. The heat mat is on a seperate switching thermostat. I am using red desert sand as a substrate that seems to be working well, but will switch to something simpler to clean in the next tank as when she urinates, I have to throw away all of the wet sand with it. Very happy with the tank and very happy with the bredli!
