This afternoon I've picked up my first snake, a male Bredli from Matt and Sally Busteed (thanks guys). Their collection is fantastic, and it took a lot of self control to only come away with the one.
By house consensus he's been dubbed Irwin, and seems quite happy in his temporary plastic container setup. He's rather inquisitive but has been quite relaxed and placid, although I did manage to get my first bite after keeping him out a little too long while showing off to the 3rd set of guests in the house tonight.
The bite didn't hurt at all (those teeth must be smaller than most needles) but I decided not to wash it to see what would happen and I did get a small allergic reaction, very similar to a kitten scratch. Not that most cats are controlled enough to make their strike and then remove the barbs without first dragging them through your skin, so at this stage I think I'd prefer a bite from Irwin to most cat scratches I've experienced.
Still very excited, totally worth the wait, and I'm certain it won't be long until we've got some more coming in. Another poor addict. Perhaps this site should have a name change to Herpaholics Anonymous.
Yep, I know, pics or it didn't happen (Interestingly enough that's a common phrase in the grafitti art scene as well ) But my flash is playing up and he's in his enclosure, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow.
Cheers for all the information and help people give out on the site, it's an amazing resource. From reading APS I think I've got a pretty good idea of what I'm in for.

Awesome to hear mate... isn't it sooo exciting getting your first one? I remember being scared that the little tacker would bite me
And you're right, it's an addiction. We do nothing but work, pay the bills, and buy reptiles lol (which then results in more and more hours cleaning, feeding and handling)
Cheers,
Austy.

Here are some early pics. Lots of the romantic hazy blur as the camera's external flash needs a service (IMGP0454) and I've been trying to leave him mostly in his container to get used to everything (IMGP0476). He's been heated by a desk lamp so far, which seems to have been ok (temps around 32 max), but it's caused humidity to be a bit high, so I'll be picking up a heatmat today to get the environment properly stable before his first feed.
When out of his click clack he's been very inquisitive and seems quite relaxed. Only tagged me that one time on the first night. The whole house has fallen in love with him, and my flatmate has already asked me to keep an eye out for a Female Bredli to get as his friend/eventual mate.
Fun times. More pics soon when he's comfortable, the flash is sorted and I've cleaned the specks from the DSLR sensor.

I picked my Bredli up from Matt and Sally a couple of weeks ago. A pleasure to deal with and some beautiful snakes.
I also got tagged on the first night, when placing her in the enclsure but nothing since then. Beautiful snake, good luck on finding another mate for it.

Congrats Jaymis. Being bitten sounds scarier than it actually is, don't you think? Beautiful bub you've got!

Thanks for the comments guys. I've been perhaps a little too excited to take proper photos, I've been fascinated by snakes for so long, so I've spent quite a bit of time just watching him explore his container and not really thought of bringing the camera into the mix. He's also about due for a shed and getting a little dull, so I might wait until he has some fresh skin before unleashing the clear and clinical photos.
I really was amazed at how tiny the bite was. It hardly even managed to bleed. When handling I've been keeping my movements slow and fluid so he doesn't get spooked, and now I've got his heat pad I think I'm going to leave him for a couple of days to get properly settled in before trying him on a feed.

After getting myself all hyped up to have problems with him feeding it turned out to be extremely easy. I was going to leave him a couple of days but last night when the lights went out he was extremely active, exploring his enclosure, so I prepared a pinkie rat and after about a minute of dangling (with a pair of chopsticks), waving, and wiggling he struck, constricted and it was down in under 10 minutes. I was going to leave it there but he immediately started prowling around again so I "cooked" him another one and it went in almost as quickly.
Since then he's been sitting in his warm spot digesting so I've left him alone all day. This evening I noticed him rubbing his nose on the sides of his clickclack so I've put in a rock paperweight in case he wants to shed. I hope the shed doesn't get stuck on his 2 pinkie lump though.
So after the stories of difficult feeders it seems that Irwin has been a bit of a disappointment there. Maybe he'll catch himself some mites or something so I can put some of my new herp knowledge to use.

Hey Jaymis,
firstly, I hope you touched wood after writing the bit about hoping he gets mites or something though I know what you mean, you have this knowledge now and you want to be able to use it.
secondly.
I envy you (In a good way I promise) You have such a beautiful Bredli. I have to wait till January or February before I can even THINK of getting myself a bredli. Absolutely beautiful snake you have there!
Snakes are incredibly facinating to watch.
