I think you will find most snakes dont want to come out of their nice warm familiar enclosure , i used to have a larger jungle and she was a good handler but would not like coming out , would wrap around a log , i would just take her top half and the tickle her tail , when she would move a bit i would move her out a bit more , eventulay got her out .
the confidence will come , but i think even the bravest get a little worried with some snakes .
My hatchy gets in the strike positon every time i go near her but she never strikes , its more of a defence thing , i just reach in with the hook pick her up and drop her in my hand .

i find with my coastal hatchie i wake him up then give him a minute for him to wake up fully'
then i slowly grab all his coils up in my hand (gently) before he gets a chance to grab hold of the branch and take him out if he coils up in my hand straight away i put him back and he ventures up my arm i find he is ok to handle as he isnt stressing out.
My hatchie did the same thing for about a week then when i did it the way mentioned above he is really good now he goes into my hand when i open his clickclack to get him out and hasnt stressed out since then...

Maybe move the logs around so you have a clearer access into the cage , and if he does grab the log just keep him on the hook and tickle his tail , he should be right once hes out .

send him down and ill look after him for you ,
but seriously he will not hurt ...... mine bit me yesty cause i scared her , she was about to fall and i quickly grabbed her so she did not fall , i actually thought she fell as she dissapeared , then i looked at my finger and she was hanging from it with her teeth hehe , that s how much it will hurt , i did not even feel it .

I think Rosemary is going to head your way to sort it out for you . (She 's a champ ).
