New Hatchie

Hello all, just wanted to show off the new one.

I bought him today (Think its a he) picked him up after having to wait 2 weeks for the import licence to come through.

I am uncertain about what breed of carpet he really is because his markings do not look like the Species name on the books.

So I am interested in your experienced opinions.

Of course I have an idea, but would like to hear others view.

I did only buy him for his markings, so I hope that he keeps them or even improves.

Yes I agree. Seems to me to be more like a jungle than anthing else.

The guy who I bought it off said that it's parents were coastals from a northern QLD area but could not show me the mother as he had sold her.

The farther I did have a look at and he didn't look coastal at all, well not with the Brisbane markings anyway. (He looked a little atherton jungle as well, but didn't have any banding).

Strange to sell it as a coastal. I just don't know what going on, but he is a great looking snake.

He just ate 3 little pinkies and had no probs striking. Then again he strikes at everything even his own tail if he misses my fingures or hand or arm or anything he can bite.

He is very entertaining in his own savage little way.

I am struggling with names as it usually takes me a few months to think of a name for any of my animals. So any suggestions would be a great help.

I think I'll go with Atherton for now. Colours are all wrong for a Darwin, but the stripes are about right.

Hope his patterns don't change too much as he grows.

"Sounds close Ricko, very similar to some you see in this area (pattern wise), but then may change dramaticly,....some of the adults get some nice orange on them, contrasted with the pale pattern, may turn out quite nice"

Yep looks like a cape to me more than an Atherton..The breeder should be able to tell you exactly what it is and if he just says it's from Nth Qld somewhere he probably has no idea and the parentage could possibly be wild caught...

Wild caught parents! another possiblity.

I saw his breeding fit out as well, he breeds Jungles, Bredli, Stimies, Darwins an a few others. I dont know why he was so vague about exactly what he really is. I'm thinking it is cross bread as the farthers patterns are nothing like this.

He was sold as a coastal. :  I don't know

What is the scientific name for a Cape York? Do they go by another common name as well.
