Purchased a 18 month old Stimson python via private sale about a months ago from interstate. Was being fed on a regular basis by previous owner although at times refused to eat for periods of 3 weeks or so. I weighed it when purchased - 27g. (yes i know small for 18 month old, looked bigger in pics sent) Have tried to feed it every week since purchased and has refused every time. At each feeding attempt I have weighed it. Has put on weight and is currently maintaining 30g. Still appears to be a solid healthy little snake.
Just wondering if I should keep trying each week or start to think about other feeding options.
I though that he may still be settling in and, due to winter it's appetite may be reduced.
I keep the thermostat set at 28deg
Any advice or comments?

Forget the thermostat setting, what does the thermometer say the warm end temperature is? Should be about 32c...
...also don't stress, I have two 6mth old Stimmies living in identical setups - one has eaten every week since I got her, the other has yet to take a feed...it has been three weeks...

my stimmie likes to see the food waved in front of his nose... I just bat him a few times then he strikes.

I have a mac that will not eat if anyone is around so I put her into a lunch box with airholes and place a corner on a heat mat and leave her be, sometimes she eats within the hour, other times 3 - 4 hours. If she hasn't eaten by then I put her back in her enclosure. She's been a fussy eater since I got her (few months without food), have you tried something like this. Also dipping the prey in chicken stock may help if that fails.

Some stimsons are just like this Just keep the heat up to it but have a thermal gradient. Keep slapping it gently with some mice and touching its tail with the mouse.. annoy it a bit and try and get it to strike. but don't upset it too much.. just try every few days. Eventually it will start to feed.
If its underweight and hasn't fed for a while, personally I'd offer food every 6 -7 days as long as its digesting the mice and defecating. Get some extra feeds into it while its eating and get some condition back on it if you can. Stimsons that have normally been voracious feeders can just go off the feed like that, sometimes for months.

Like Aslan said dont go by your thermostat, the thermometer should be around 32 in the warm end. Also get intouch with the previous owner and see how he had it set up .It might have been in a click clack, with such a change in Habitat can cause them to stress.Keeping it simple can be better for you and the snake.

i think maybe leave it alone for 2 weeks straight dont even attempt to feed it or weigh it
just let it be
then try again
i also found rubbing the mouse/rat on the "neck" area helps just at the back of the undersied of the jaw
just backwards and forwards slowly
or try piercing the foods scull with a pin or needle and squeeze some juice out helps as well
also check to make sure the food isnt too hot or cold
hope this helps

Totally agree with jeramie85...
My biggest mistake was to constantly handle, move and even peer in at my new jungle that would not eat for at least 2 months. But after I left it completely alone for 2 weeks or more...whola, it finally ate on it's own. So just leave it be for the next two weeks, turn up the heat to around 30-32 degrees in his/her hotspot and when you try again in approx. 2 weeks time, try everything that everybody has suggested above, especially try braining the rodent with a pin prick to the head and squeeze a little juice out (I know it sounds grose, but it works!)
Hope this helps, good luck and keep us updated with any new progress.

Thanks for all your input everyone.
I'll adjust the temp, leave it alone for 2 weeks and try the braining thingy next feed. Yes, I tried wiggling the food, head bashing etc, each feed - except for braining. Had thought of touching base with the previous owner asking about the previous setup.
Thanks!

Thanks! | It's obvious by it size (or lack of) it's been a problem before you got it. Getting on to the previous owner would be a good start.
