new user:)

gday everybody.
i am a new user who found this forum this morning and have read some of the articles that people have posted and i am very happy with the reply that they get from the other snake lovers.
well i do have one question... how much would you expect to pay for a breeding pair of diamond pythons, i heard of a man trying to sell a breeding pair for $500 with permit and everything, i personally thought that this was a bargin. but just wanted your opinion.

thanks
charles

Hi Charles and welcome to the site.
We have a nice community here with alot of friendly herp lovers,it really is a great place to kick back and talk reptiles.

OK As for your question on Diamonds ummm how long is a piece of string? Prices vary dramatically, while one person may sell a so called breeding pair for a few hundred another person may be asking $1500.I feel it comes down to how close the person is with there snakes.$500 a pair of diamonds sounds suspect to me,I cant see anyone investing 3 or 4 years time with a pair of snakes then sell them less than they were worth as hatchlings.IMO id say he had no luck in breeding them hence the very cheap asking price. If they were prooven breeders they would be asking alot more due to them knowing the profits made from a clutch,so theyd sell them at a dearer price to someone looking for an investment. If you are interested in this pair I advise you ask the seller alot of questions and watch the pair with a keen eye as another problem may be they are not the healthiest specimens.

Welcome to the site M-M You are right about it being a good one and it is a great place to talk about anything herpy and so friendly with it

As for those diamonds I have to agree with the others as 500 for a breeding pair just says to me that there has to be something wrong with them! Could be wrong though as often people do strange things

Let us know how you go if you do buy them

Nah...I'm picking up a 6ft male diamond on Wednesday.
I'm spending way too much money on snakes lately.

today i was talking to a friend of a friend and he said that he knows a bloke who is trying to sell a pair of diamond pythons, i don't know if they are proven breeders or they are just a male and a female. but even so $500 for two diamonds is a pretty good bargin i think. the reason that he is trying to sell them for so cheap is because he has been trying to get rid of them for so long and isn't looking to get anything else so he doesn't mind if he doesn't make any money out of them.

thanks for your opinions

g/day

Hi M&M/

Apart from the cost factor the other thing hat makes me suspicious is the statement, "...for $500 with permit and everything".

A breeeder can't supply a permit, as far as I know.

What does "everything" mean.

Assuming you're a beginner, I'd suggest you find an experienced herper in your area and suck up to him amd ask him/her to go with you to check out the snakes.

Where are you located? Maybe someone from APS can help out...

i am no beginner and have been in the herp hobby for a couple of years now and in the NT all that you need to keep a diamond python is a permit number. no matter who you get your snake off you have to get them to give you a permit number for that snake so that you can put it in your log book.

ahh, I think the permit system might be a tad different in the territory, and maybe even a lot simpler

NT is way too hot for Diamonds, would not be that easy to keep them at the right temp.
To hibernate them, you’d probably have to stick em in the fridge.

Just kidding, I know Paul breeds them in N Queensland.
