Hi Guys. I've been reading the site (voraciously) for a couple of days, and today finally sent off my licence form, so I feel like a real Herpster now and should probably post and make myself known
I've always been fascinated by snakes and have wanted a pet one for ages, but student life and semi-regular international travel didn't seem best lifestyle for keeping herps. Now things have settled down though, so I've researched everything I can think of, discussed it with my Girly, informed my flatmates and yes, sent off the licence application.
So now I'm wondering - how long does it take for approval? I've been seeing all of these fantastic pictures and it's starting to get a bit much for me to bear! I'm thinking that if the licence takes more than a week or so I might have to stop checking out the site, otherwise there's a real risk that I may snap and end up posting photos of my new rubber surrogate "pet".
Speaking of photos: I'm really impressed with the quality pictures showing up here. I'm a video producer and web designer, so I see a lot of photography both terrible and wonderful, and there's some truly great stuff here.
Now I'm going to put the mouse down and walk away. Great to meet you all, I've been pleasantly surprised at the thriving little community which exists here.
Jaymis

Jaymis, what state are you in (apart from over-eager )? Diferent states have diferent licensing bodies and so the wait varies.
Have you decided what you want yet? There'll be a heap of hatchies for sale in about 3-6 months from now.

Welcome jaymis. When I applied for our permit it took 7 weeks. Could have killed those nice people at DSE
If you are in Victoria it is pretty busy this time of the year with renewals etc and I think they (the DSE) get a bit swamped.

NSW generally seems pretty good - I'm in country NSW and have never had to wait more than 4-5 days for any license stuff, including import permits etc. Not to say it can't happen, but if there's a problem or irregularity you want sorted out, they've been very helpful on the phone too.
Good luck and welcome!
Jamie.

IM in NSW and mine took about 3 weeks, but that was because they sent it to the wrong address.... A Mister Jessica something or other, which struck me as a little odd

Just wanted to say Jaymis that I know exactly how you feel. I am addicted to this site and I'm not sure it will lessen when I finally do get a snake.
Just waiting not so patiently and everytime I walk past the empty tank I get excited. Its ok you've been bitten by the bug. The is no cure

I was thinking that I'd be really original and get something Children's-ish. Apparently Just Reptiles in Ipswich have some 7-month old Stimsons Pythons, so I thought that sounded quite good. Quote: |

It has already answered loads of questions for me (and brought up plenty more, and then answered those as well). It's quite funny because I think I took a day or so of seriously researching the subject, but once I found APS everything became much clearer
Cheers for all of the replies. I feel very welcome.

Have to say I thought it was a little too easy..

| I'd actually thought of trying that as I work from home so I could just drop in to the NPWS office and say hi Decided that the wait might do me good though.
