Hi,
We are new to all of this. Last week we bought our very first snake. A two year old Olive Python. She is beautiful. We may have bitten off more than we can chew but my partner only want a small one but i had to have the olive.
At the moment we have found that she can be quite jumpy when touched and if we get too close to her enclosure too quick she will strike out. We have learned that this is because of the breed and that they are very food concious but i was wondering do they get out of this habit? If so hong long till she settles?
At this stage we would welcome any advice and tips that can be given.

Welcome Coatesy !
Nice Olive, you will be better off just giving her some time to settle in, give her a feed, leave her to digest and then start handling her.
She's probably just a little stressed out, and may of gone from someone who didn't handle her much.
Give it time, and patience and I am sure she will become less jumpy as she becomes used to you and her new home.

Interesting choice for a first snake, but what a lovely one!
Follow what Niel said, give her time to settle in. Ask alby about being struck at

that'd hurt! Do you know what to do if it latches on to you and doesn't let go? You can't jerk away from it, as this can dislodge teeth and lead to mouth rot.

Talk to Ricko about Olives hehe
Stunning looking animal Coatesy, and I'm a big fan of Olives, but you've certainly jumped into the deeper end of the python pit Time and patience will see you right |

Hi there and welcome,
I am a big Olive fan but for awhile I have to make do with my two beautiful coastals. If you don't mind me asking, How big is she? in feet I mean!

Don't under estimate how strong your snake is and what it can potentially do!
