ill be getting my first python hatchie (jungle) on saturday and im unsure of night temps?
ive bought a 13 watt heat pad and a thermostat, from what i understand im supposed to set it at around 30 degrees, but i cant find any info on what im supposed to do about night time temps, and with winter coming up, what should be my day and night temps then?
and i assume i should make them a gradual decrease?
thanks, luke

Keep the temps constant for hatchies, day and night, Winter and Summer, 30 degrees perhaps even a little higher say 32 as long as you still have a decent gradient..

mr bredli- by gradient, do you mean how far the temp drops before the thermostat tells the pad to cut back in?
sorry too sound like a dummy, i just had to look up the definition of gradient..lol

Gradient means the variation in temp from one side to the other, from the warm side to the cool side. If you can have a warm side of 32 degrees and a cool side of 25 degrees, that is perfect. Having a gradient of temps allows the snake to choose its own body temperature, so if your gradient if 25-32 degrees, it can choose to be any temperature it likes within that range. 30 degrees is usually their preferred body temp, but not always, so it's good to allow them the choice to be either higher or lower, at least by a few degrees either way.

ok sweet, so having the heat mat only half covering the bottom of the tub sounds like a good idea?

One third is usually preferable, especially if you're going to have the heat pad set at 32 degrees. If you have it set at 30 degrees, having the heat pad under half of the tub may be ok, depends on the size of the tub and temperature of the room (min and max). But one third is usually the safer bet.

That way your snake can regulate its body heat, like it would do naturally.
