Have any BTS been bred in captivity or is it just the night tiger form which is hard to breed?

There have been any numbers of BTs bred in captivity, for that matter there have been fair amounts of night tigers bred, also. The problem seems to be with the Katherines, or "candy canes". From what I can source, getting them to breed is easy enough, it seems to be a hatching issue. I'd assume that there's any amount of info on temps etc, as it certainly didn't take me too long to find night tiger incubating info, so if the problems seem to be confined to the Katherines, I'm guessing (& only guessing!) that the problems are with replicating the native area's humidity. Maybe temps are far different along the gorge than they are at Darwin, Townsville, etc. I'd assume though, given the standard of the keepers who've tried to date though, that they'd have the temps well & truly sorted out. I have a couple of ideas that I'll be trying (run a number of eggs in all 3 incubators) if we ever get a female. Who knows, we might just get lucky!

I've heard the complete opposite! Getting enough weight on the female to breed is a huge task, particularly with wild caught animals that will seldom take mammals. Even then breeding is sporadic. Synchonising fat female snake, getting both and the male to feel like mating is pretty tricky (so i'm told). Apparently once the eggs are laid you're home free. Eggs are straight forward to hatch.
Apparently raising young animals is also tricky.
Good luck with it, it sounds like a great project!

i heard they have bred wild caught ones but they are having trouble breeding captive bred animals.I am trying to get mine to breed but it almost seems impossible.Maye you just have to leave them isolated a bit and let nature take its course.

Here is my BTS. Great snake, feeds well on defrosted mice. We are trying to find a female for him and try to breed. As we live in Katherine, it should (theoretically!) be not too difficult to get temps, humidity etc right for them. If it ever happens we'll let you know. |

their pretty snakes , the wild one I caught at Tweed heads was much darker and stripes harder to see. Very aggressive fella about four foot. I thought that nite tiger was just another name for BTS. Is there a difference?

yes licence is needed in vic, cement, the animals from up norther teritory are the candy canes, like kwinana's, down the east coast you get the more plain looking snakes, kwinana, that is a stunning bts

Thanks hornet, he is a beauty. We get them in the wild here (i live in Katherine) and they aren't all as brightly coloured as this, some have a more brown background or not as "red'.
