Scrub Pythons are natually found south of Townsville. I have found many specimens at Townsville myself. However, having stated that the skin appears to be a BTS. BTS in north Qld have been found way over 8feet in length. A 2 metre skin would be off a specimen of about 5.5 ft to 6 ft.

Count the scales around the body. If its over 30 scales you have a python. If there is only about 13 or so scales its a BTS. Also look at the belly scales. Pythons are very narrow whereas BTS are rather wide. Hope this helps.

argh very confused. there are heaps of scales around the body of the snake (around 30), but the belly scales i can't really tell. The first pics are of a side of the top middle scales. The last is of the underbelly.

We've decided that we'll go out and have a look one night this week to see if we can see anything around. Hopefully we'll get lucky and get some pics.

Clairebear, are the scales down the centre of the back six sided, or hexagonal? The Brown Tree snake has a lovely pattern down the centre made of hexagonal scales, quite unusual.

And yes, they get over 2 metres, I have a large one here. Just don't know how big he really is as he will never stay still long enough to measure him properly, but with wiggles and curves, he reaches 7 1/2 feet, so laying out, I estimate him to be about 8 to 8 1/2 feet.

Read the thread, 2 metres is not unusual.
