It's probably due to excitement rather than an actual attempt at caudal luring. Plenty of my pythons do it, and i've had Yellow-faced Whipsnakes and Burton's Legless Lizards do it also.

Caudal luring

Hey mate, I have a couple of olives, My larger older one likes to occasionally hypnotise you with its tail before it gives a friendly love tap every now and again. I had her on the bed this morning and my girlfriend gave her a little tickle around the mid section and did a similiar move on her, she doesn't know weather it struck at her or not, she saw a rapid movement of her tail and her haed coming at her, I heard a shriek, olive on the bed, half naked gir;friend on the floor!!
I recently spoke with someone who is rather knowledgeable with herps and he said that he hadn't heard of olives doing this before. I recently got another olive and it also displays similar behaviour but does not bite, only strikes. Hopefully he stays the same throughout adulthood!! Hope this is something similar to what you were talking about or I just made a d*?k of myself, Im sure this is what my mate called this same behaviour?

Caudal means tail, and luring means luring, (basically luring prey in via worm like movements of the tail). Death adders do it.

woma behaviour

Hey mate, check the last couple of posts in this thread. It does happen, but very uncommon.

I forget which one but I seem to recall an article about caudal luring in Water Pythons in a Herpetofauna last year or the year before
