Olives

I see a lot of pics of the more patterned snakes on here but very few people seem to keep olives? (that or they aren't showing photos of them). My first experience handling a snake was an olive at Upmarket pets a few weeks back and I thought it was beautiful! Also handled a MD and one I can't remember - and that had me hooked! From that moment on I wanted a snake - it was so beautiful. (However getting an olive fell somewhat by the wayside when I realised what size they get to!) So are olives not popular? Possibly because of their lack of pattern?

My Partner has an olive she's only little at the moment and yes the size thing had me worried but cause we've had her from such a little bub she'll be so placid when shes older it won't be to much of a drama... I've got a couple of photots of her on this computer but they aren't that great but if you want i can post them and grab some better ones later.

Yeah that would be cool - I love olives. But they get so big? I'm wavering between a beardie or a spotted at the moment - beardies being more active is what has me wavering.

I doubt it's the pattern that's the issue - i love them - the liasis family is my absolute favourite - i think the sleek simple beauty of olives and waters wins over bhps and jungles to be honest... but with olives especially, the size holds people back - i'm not very strong at all - so i don't even think i'd be able to lift an adult olive - let alone wrestle it off if it decided it was hungry one day... even placid snakes *can* bite if they want to....

I agree I love the Liasis genus too They have such smooth scales and nice shaped heads
I sooo want an albino olive they get so massive though. My large female water can be a handful & she has nothing on a full grown olive

Definately!! i mean when she gets to that size her niceness won't be taken for granted for one minute but at the moment she is nice and small..

i love olives, the reason i dont have one yet is cos they get so big,...once i'm settled in a house instead of a unit i'll consider getting one.

I love em... Specially ma Reggie boy... lol
I had him out on the verandah this w'end n he sneaked off down the drain pipe n curled himself up in a nice spot underneath that we couldnt reach.... Had 2 harrass him a lil 2 get him 2 move lol... NEVER a dull moment....
Can anyone fill me in on whether theres truth to the suggestion that olive hatchies are difficult to feed in the beginning?? And whats a average clutch size??
