i had read that, and i totally scrubbed myself and washed my clothes like it says to. (cos the snake was around my shoulders and cruised over the top of my head i figured hand washing wasnt good enough)

i just knew i'd read that other people that had done the same still ended up wtih problems and i couldnt handle something bad happening to Loki.

hey olivehydra, sorry to hear that mate. Was he a new snake? If not, do you know how he was exposed to it?
Bye, Steve.

Yes, I have read that...Its basically the same as I would do for any animal I kept - With the addition of disinfecting the enclosure weekly...

I have also read a large part of this - http://www.smuggled.com/OPMV17.htm

Which seems to be a fairly extensive study on the spread of OPMV...Based on the observations made in this paper, it would appear OPMV is not primarily spread through airborne contamination, rather through direct fluid transfer...

Unfortunately, I cant find anything more recent than 2004, so if anyone can provide more up to date information, that would be great...

BTW - I'm not trying to make out that this virus is safe - I simply want to know as much as I can, to prevent my collection from becoming infected...However I also believe that incorrect information (ie, hysteria or paranoia) can easily do as much harm as not enough information...

Exactly the same as in the human medical world. 'Meningococcal outbreak scare' sells news so any cases are blown up out of proportion but there are numerous other people-killer diseases that are much worse but don't have the sensational factor. Some parts of the media thrive on fear and paranoia but the best defence is to get as much evidence and education as you can.
