Got my ven licence a few months ago and thought I would surprise my man by getting him a collett. Found a 2yo female and got her here 2 weeks ago. Stunning little girl but think she was trying to be a model with her very slim figure.
Tried to introduce her slowly to food, a few small appetizers to start. All seemed to be going well and even asked for more in a few days time. I let her go another day and then tempted her again with another small surprise. Things were looking good, she sunned herself under the lamp, hid in her box and came out to say hello today.
I went out to play in the yard for a few hours, came back to say hello to the girl, and what greeted me :
My little girl was laying very still with her head upon some slimy mess.
I touched her, I prodded and poked her but she wasn't going to move.
So I gently picked her up, placed her into her little box and put her in the freezer so my man can see I didn't kill her when he gets home from work in a week's time. |

I would be consulting a vet, and getting an autopsy done, unless you know what caused the slimy mess.
Sounds like it might have been crushed though.

Thanks for all your kind words.
The mess certainly smelled like a regurgitated feed but there was no substance to it and looked very brown and mucousy. She came from some people in Brisbane and have tried to get hold of them but so far haven't managed. I can't stop feeling like maybe I did something wrong but she was only skin and bone when we received her.
My local vet is going to perform an autopsy so hopefully he can shed some light for me. He hasn't had much to do with reptiles yet but is very keen to learn, keeps an eastern small blotched python and now an inland bearded dragon we gave him, in his surgery, to educate the kids. Had him perform a ceasarian on a carpet 6 months ago. Lucky me got to assist and found it very interesting.

Hi tanya, Sorry to hear of your loss.... I can imagine you feel sad but i wouldn't feel guilty, as i saw the other day when i picked up my maccie from you, you obviously care heaps for your animals and give them the best living environments. Sorry to hear your news, would be interested to hear what the vet has to say. On a bright note, our maccie is doing great and has so far only tagged the kids! But she seems to be settling nicely, will offer her a feed tonight!!

Did the people you bought it off mention anything wrong with it?
Being so skinny as you described, they have alot to answer for IMO.

That's such a sad tale. Hopefully some answers will make it a little easier to bear. Atleast her last days sound very pleasant.
