Our Prossy

Hey everyone,

I finally took some nice-ish pictures of our 6 year old girl. She's a Proserpine Carpet and a real sweety pie. She is our first snake, and it was a bit daunting considering I'm Dutch had nothing to do with snakes until 4 months ago, and she's almost 9 foot!!!!
She is really placid though and my main competition for cuddles from hubby..

Cheers,
Ellis

Definitely looks like a Proserpine however I have yet to see one that has even been close to 9 foot.Just the other day there was a large carpet on my road which had been hit by a car and a car full of people"2 girls and 1 bloke" sitting there watching it so after I saw it when driving passed I came back and this was one very very old animal looking at the size of it's head.I've seen a lot of these but this guy had an absolute massive head which generally means they'rre quite an old snake and the poor bloody thing which was quite a good looking animall was biting itself etc etc so I yelled out to the people in the other carif anyone was keen to take it off the road and put it out of it's misery and the girls straight away screamed no way and I then asked what about the guy in the back if you're just going to sit there watching it in agony get out, drag it quickly by the tailand it won't get a chance to bite you and then give it a big round about whirl hitting it's head on the ground which would kill it outright aand he was too scared to get out of the car either.

So I only living 2 minutes away didn't bring my chair with me and decided I would just back up and run over it to put it out of it's misery, doesn't sound nice but watching it biting itself wasn't nice either. It may have been a very very well fed Proserpine because as I've said you rarely see them any bigger than 7 foot tops however maybe in captivity would have helped and not to forget you also get Proserpine looking animals in other localities where they tend to grow a bit bigger but yep a nice coastal for sure!!My favourite Proserpines have some nice oranges, reds and yellows tending to be striped!!

Thanks peoples..

BROWNS, I'm pretty sure it's a Proserpine. Is there a definitive way to tell that she is? I'm new to the herp world but did notice one big scale on her head, which I also have found on pictures of Proserpines on the net. I don't know, but maybe that is a way of telling what species she is.
We measured her a couple of weeks ago, and she is 8 foot 10,5 inches.
Sorry to hear about the carpet on the side of the road, but I reckon you did the right thing. I've seen some pictures of those awesome Proserpines with the yellow on them, they are fantastic looking animals

IHi PeeGee,I don't think there is any clear way to be able to tell it is a Proserpine 100% as really it's just a coastal which would have the same or similar scalation on the head as any other coastal. As I said it does seem quite large for a Proserpine which are usually around 7 foot tops and quite solid and afterall just a coastal from a locality like a Tully Jungle being a jungle from Tully.

I have seen many oversized pythons usually from over feeding however even if you put yours on a diet I highly doubt it will make it any shorter so just enjoy your coastal and learn as much as you can from it,it's a great looking animal, all the best!!
