Since they have been home(only a week) they have eaten every 3 days. These babies were hatched in feb so are still very young. So far they have consumned 2 pinkie rats three fuzzy mice and a mid size mouse each. My temps are 32 to 26 degrees. Im just concerned that this may be excessive. Im feeding them when they look like they are hunting. They are attacking their food with gusto, and devouring it quite quickly. Do i keep feeding them what they will take or do i back them off. |

Snakes dont eat that much (unlike human beings) and they dont digest food as fast as us so they dont eat much at all..

One feed every five days is certainly a good schedule for hatchlings and is great for giving them a head start with their growth...
Three feeds per week is definately excessive - of note though, even despite all the talk of overfed snakes i think it is far more common to see underfed animals than overfed...

Its good that it is feeding so well but it can be very bad in the the long run if the snake is eating too much from day 1.. its better off to feed it once every 5 days as a hatch and once a weeks as a juv and once evry 10 days or 2 weeks when an adult (1.5m+).. i feed all my snakes every 2 weeks now and they still grow fast..

| | Impatient Snake Subscriber | Join Date: Jan-07 Location: Sydney Gender: | | | | Rams - I am also sceptical of this advice...I feed my snakes on a semi-regular schedule that suits me - I pay no attention whatsoever to whether they have crapped beforehand or not...
It seems strange and I have never seen or read anything to suggest this is important...
